Targeted Education & Prevention Programme for Adults
Level 2 Community Drugs & Alcohol Awareness – Next Steps
Causeway Rural and Urban Network has been funded by the Public Health Agency (PHA) in support of the Northern Drug and Alcohol Co-ordination Team’s (NDACT), Action Plan to provide this targeted education and prevention programme for adults in the period April 2014 – March 2015.
This accredited Programme aims to enable participants to become more aware of community issues related to substance misuse. It is also tailored to develop their knowledge and skills by exploring their attitudes and enabling them to become more effective in supporting their communities in addressing substance misuse issues. In addition to the above this programme will also address the following issues:
- Confidence and communication skills
- Learning the difference between drug/alcohol use and misuse
- Become more aware of their own attitudes, values and opinions and how these have an impact on how they deal with others in the community
- Exploring risks related to drugs and alcohol use including binge drinking, use of cannabis, volatile substances and other drugs both legal and illegal
- Exploring affects of alcohol/substance misuse on individuals/families and the community as a whole
- Enabling participants to relate this to their own personal lives
- Exploring harm reduction options
- How to ask for help and where to find help
Open College Network Certificate at Level 2: Community Drugs & Alcohol Awareness – Next Steps, for all participants who complete the programme.
If you live/work in the Causeway area and would like to access this accredited programme, it is now available and will be running in The GADDA Building, 85 Main Street, Garvagh, BT51 5AB starting on Wednesday 15th October 2014 from 7.15pm – 9.15pm. The course will run for 8 consecutive Wednesdays, (excluding Halloween) until 10th December 2014. This course is FREE of charge.
Priority will be given to groups/individuals resident in the Garvagh and Coleraine areas, parents, older people and young adults aged 18 – 25 years.
