Beginners Sewing Class

This class is suitable for complete beginners or people with limited experience in using a sewing machine.

On the first night material supplied for a small donation. Participants will need to bring their own scissors, pins, needles, thread.  A sewing machine will be available for use but if participants have their own bring it along too.

The class will cover:

1. Learn about the sewing machine parts and the up keep of the sewing machine. Learn about using the correct needles and threads and to thread the sewing machine correctly and adjust the tension. Learn basic stitches, how make a variety of seams and sew curves and corners.

2. You will sew darts, insert zips, attach waistbands and facings, make gathers and frills and learn how to hem and finish a garment and how to make a button hole.

3. You will also learn how to choose a commercial pattern, lay a pattern on fabric and cut out and mark, ready to sew.

4. Each participant will make two items – A cushion & an item of choice. Tutor will inform participants of materials required beforehand.
